Tenerife  - The Island of Eternal Spring

Tenerife is more than the place where our yoga school happens to be. It is part of the Shambhala experience.

Located in the Canary Islands, Tenerife is known for its year-round mild climate, dramatic volcanic landscapes and extraordinary diversity of nature. Within a relatively small island, you can move from black-sand beaches and the Atlantic Ocean to ancient forests, green valleys and the volcanic landscape of Mount Teide — Spain’s highest peak.

We are located in Los Realejos, in the north of Tenerife, surrounded by mountains, banana plantations and the Atlantic Ocean. This part of the island has a slower, more authentic feel, with traditional Canarian villages, local life and some of Tenerife’s most beautiful natural landscapes close by.

There is plenty to discover beyond the yoga shala. You can hike through the mountains, explore volcanic landscapes, swim in the ocean, visit historic towns such as La Orotava and Garachico, or simply find a quiet place to watch the sunset.

Tenerife also has a rich cultural identity, shaped by its Canarian traditions, Spanish heritage and Guanche roots. Food, local festivals, architecture and everyday island life all form part of what makes the experience here so unique.

For us, Tenerife is the perfect setting for yoga teacher training: warm, diverse, naturally inspiring and with enough space to slow down.

Come for the yoga. Stay for the island. Leave with memories that reach far beyond your training.

Welcome to Shambhala Yoga School

Shambhala is an independent, Canarian family-owned yoga school in Los Realejos, Tenerife.

From the beginning, we wanted to create something different: a place where yoga teacher training feels personal, human and connected — not like an industry or a mass-produced course.

Our groups are intentionally small, with a maximum of 9 students and 2 teachers. This allows us to genuinely get to know the people we teach, offer personal guidance and create the kind of connection that is difficult to find in a large training group.

Our small groups also allow us to notice the individual people behind the students — how they learn, communicate, practise and experience the environment around them. When we understand what someone needs, we can often make small adjustments that make a meaningful difference.

Our teachers are not constantly changing. We have built a small, stable team who stay with Shambhala year after year. When you return, you see familiar faces — people who know you, remember your journey and continue to be part of your Shambhala experience.

The school itself is designed to feel like a home rather than a training centre. You can practise in our yoga shala, relax in the garden, swim in the pool, enjoy the sauna, share time with your group or simply find a quiet corner to be on your own.

Our accommodation is right here at the school, surrounded by the mountains and the Atlantic landscape of northern Tenerife. Fresh vegetarian ingredients are provided throughout your training, giving you the freedom to prepare nourishing meals and enjoy them together.

But perhaps the most important part of Shambhala is what happens between the classes.

We believe yoga is not only something we practise on a mat. It is something we explore through how we live, how we treat others, how we listen and how we connect with ourselves and the people around us.

That is why we don’t see our students as customers who come for a course and leave with a certificate.

You become part of the Shambhala Family.

And we hope that connection stays with you long after you leave Tenerife.

Shambhala Treatments

Take some time to slow down and receive

Your time at Shambhala is about learning, practising and growing — but it is also about knowing when to pause.

One of the things that makes the Shambhala experience special is that you can enjoy a range of bodywork and wellbeing treatments without even leaving the school. After a day of yoga, learning and exploration, you can simply step into a quieter space and give your body and mind some time to rest.

Our treatments are offered by Ilona, who has been part of the Shambhala Family for more than six years. Over that time, she has become a familiar and trusted part of life at the school, sharing her knowledge and caring approach with our students.

Choose from a selection of treatments:

• Lomi Lomi Massage — flowing, rhythmic bodywork inspired by Hawaiian traditions
• Thai Massage — assisted stretching and mindful bodywork
• Acupuncture — a traditional practice using fine needles at specific points of the body
• Deep Tissue Massage — focused bodywork for areas of muscular tension
• Foot Reflexology — a relaxing treatment focused on the feet
• Lymphatic Drainage — gentle, rhythmic massage techniques
• Cupping & Gua Sha — traditional techniques used as part of relaxing bodywork
• Reiki — a gentle, hands-on practice for relaxation and mindful rest
• Tameana — an energetic practice inspired by chakra and vibrational traditions

Whether you book a treatment after a full day of training or simply want some time for yourself during your stay, it can be a beautiful way to slow down, reconnect and take care of yourself.

At Shambhala, we believe that yoga is also about learning to listen — to your body, your energy and what you need in each moment.

Sometimes that means practicing.

Sometimes it means exploring.

And sometimes, it means simply lying down and letting someone else take care of you for a while.
