Yoga, sunshine and a different pace of life

For 15 days, Tenerife becomes your yoga home.

Practise in the morning, learn throughout the day and have time to breathe, explore and enjoy the island around your training.

From volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches to the Atlantic Ocean and the warmth of the Canarian way of life, Tenerife gives you a beautiful setting to step away from your everyday routine and fully immerse yourself in your practice.

And for Andrea, co-founder and lead teacher of Shambhala, this isn’t simply a beautiful place to run a yoga school. Tenerife is home, she loves sharing its landscapes, culture and way of life with students who come from all over the world.

Because sometimes changing your surroundings helps you see your practice differently, too.

Why fully in person?

Some things are different when your teacher is right there beside you.

They can see how you move, hear how you teach, answer your questions in the moment and give you feedback that comes from actually practicing together.

Learning to teach yoga is not only about studying information. It is about practising, teaching, observing, receiving feedback, asking questions and trying again.

That’s why your 200-hour training at Shambhala takes place fully in person. From your first practice to your final teaching sessions, you are learning through direct experience, with your teachers and fellow students around you.

Why only 9 students?

We keep every 200-hour training to a maximum of 9 students, with 2 teachers throughout the course.

This gives you space to ask questions, receive individual feedback, practise teaching and learn through real experience.

Your teachers get to know you and your practice. They can notice your strengths, help you through challenges and guide you as you develop your own way of teaching.

For us, a small group isn’t simply about having fewer students. It’s about having more space to learn.

Learn with the people behind the school

There is something different about learning in a school where the people who created it are also the people who are there with you throughout your training.

At Shambhala, our founders are actively involved in the courses — teaching lessons, sharing their experience, observing your practice, answering your questions and being part of everyday life at the school.

We are personally invested in the experience you have here. We want to know you, understand how you learn and be there to support you throughout the journey.

Because when you spend 15 days learning together, relationships matter.

Depth takes time

There is only so much we can meaningfully learn, practice and integrate within a limited amount of time.

A teacher training isn’t simply about how many subjects, techniques or certificates can fit into a program. It’s about having enough time to understand, practice, ask questions, make mistakes, receive feedback and let the learning become part of you.

At Shambhala, we would rather give you the time and attention to truly experience what you are learning than fill your training with more and more material just to give you a longer list of certificates.

For us, becoming a yoga teacher is not about collecting knowledge. It’s about developing understanding.

Our 200-hour training is built around a strong foundation in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, while giving you the opportunity to experience different yoga practices from the inside.

We believe that becoming a yoga teacher is not only about learning information. It is about practicing, observing, asking questions, receiving feedback and experiencing the teachings for yourself.

Learning without exams

There are no grades, memorization tests or final exams at Shambhala.

Throughout your training, you learn by practising, teaching, observing and receiving feedback. Your teachers are there to guide you throughout the process, rather than waiting until the end to assess what you have learned.

For us, learning yoga is not about remembering the right answers for a test. It is about understanding, experiencing and being able to apply what you have learned.

Hatha Yoga

Develop a strong foundation in Hatha yoga, including alignment, breath, stability, awareness and mindful movement. You will learn the principles and teaching skills needed to confidently guide Hatha yoga classes.

Vinyasa Yoga

Learn how to create intelligent, purposeful sequences that connect movement and breath. You will develop the skills to plan, demonstrate and teach Vinyasa classes with clarity and confidence.

Anatomy & Physiology

Develop a practical understanding of anatomy and physiology for yoga and how the body responds to movement and different postures. Learn to observe individual differences and offer appropriate modifications and variations to support different students.

Yoga Philosophy & Humanities

Explore the roots, history and philosophy of yoga and discover how these teachings can extend beyond the yoga mat. We explore subjects including the Yoga Sutras, ethics, chakras, koshas, mudras and the yogic approach to everyday life.

Teaching Methodology

Develop the practical skills needed to become a confident yoga teacher. Learn about sequencing, class planning, verbal cues, demonstration, observation, adjustments, communication and creating a safe and supportive space for your students.

Pranayama

Explore traditional pranayama practices and understand how conscious breathing can influence the body, mind and energy. You will develop your own practice while learning how to confidently and safely guide pranayama techniques for your students.

Meditation

Explore different approaches to meditation and develop a personal practice rooted in awareness, concentration and inner observation. You will also learn how to guide meditation practices, creating a clear and supportive experience for your students.

Experiencing Different Yoga Practices

Throughout the training, you will also experience different approaches to yoga, including Yin Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Partner Yoga and Yoga Nidra.

These are not separate teaching certifications. They are part of your experience as a yoga student and future teacher.

By experiencing different practices yourself, you can feel the differences between them — how they move, how they feel in the body, how they influence the mind and what each practice has to offer.

Sound Bath

Experience the vibrational and meditative qualities of sound through a guided sound bath, offering another way to explore relaxation, awareness and deep rest.

Learning through experience

At Shambhala, we believe that yoga teaching is learned through more than information alone.

You need to feel the practice in your own body. You need to try teaching, receive feedback and learn from the experience.

Because becoming a yoga teacher isn’t just about knowing what to teach. It’s about experiencing yoga deeply enough to share it with others.

Your Teachers Are Part of Your Journey

A yoga teacher training is shaped not only by what you learn, but by who you learn from.

At Shambhala, you are guided by experienced teachers who are genuinely involved in your learning. With a maximum of 9 students and 2 teachers throughout your training, there is time to ask questions, receive personal feedback and be supported as you grow.

Because the groups are small, our teaching can also respond to the people who are actually in the room. Your teachers can observe your practice closely, offer adjustments more than once, notice how you are developing and adapt explanations, examples and teaching to the needs of the group. Every training is a little different because every group is different.

Our teachers bring different experiences, perspectives and areas of knowledge to the training, while sharing the same approach: teaching with presence, care, professionalism and respect for each student’s journey.

We want you to leave with more than a certificate.

We want you to leave feeling more confident in your practice, more comfortable teaching, and more connected to your own voice as a yoga teacher.

You live here, practice here, learn here and share everyday life with the people around you.

You’ll also have access to a washing machine, shower towels, a hairdryer in every room and our sauna.

During the winter months, we offer special sauna evenings — a lovely way to unwind after a day of practice.

Time to breathe, explore and recharge

Saturday afternoon and Sunday are your time to slow down, rest, explore Tenerife or simply enjoy some space for yourself.

You might take a walk through the mountains, visit the coast, enjoy the pool, explore the island or stay at Shambhala with a book and some quiet time.

The rhythm of the training is immersive, but it is not designed to fill every minute. We believe you also need time to rest, process what you are learning and simply be.

Nourishing Food at Shambhala

We believe that some of the most beautiful moments are the simple ones we share with others.

Food is part of that experience at Shambhala. Our spacious kitchen and shared dining areas naturally become places to connect, talk, laugh and enjoy time together.

We carefully choose fresh, sattvic vegetarian ingredients, with a focus on seasonal and locally sourced produce whenever possible. We love supporting local farmers and bringing the flavours of Tenerife into our everyday life at Shambhala. We also grow some of our own produce in our garden, including delicious Canarian bananas.

Fresh ingredients are provided throughout your training, giving you the freedom to prepare nourishing meals and enjoy them together with your group.

Vegan and gluten-free options can be accommodated, as well as other dietary requirements and allergies. Just let us know in advance so we can make sure the ingredients provided are suitable for you.

Food is not just about nourishment. It is another opportunity to slow down, share, connect and feel at home.

How many teachers are there?

Two experienced teachers guide each training, bringing different perspectives and supporting you throughout the course.

I have different learning, sensory or communication needs. Can you support me?

Yes. Absolutely. We want you to feel comfortable, understood and able to learn in a way that works for you.

Everyone learns and experiences their environment differently. You may be autistic, have ADHD, dyslexia or another neurodivergence, or simply know that you learn best in a particular way. You may benefit from having more time to process information, knowing what to expect, receiving information in advance or having certain sensory needs considered.

If there is anything that helps you feel more comfortable, communicate or learn, please tell us before your training.

You do not need to share a diagnosis or any personal information you are not comfortable sharing. We want to understand what helps you, not put you into a category.

Where possible, we can send relevant information or materials in advance, let you know what we will be covering the following day, and adapt our explanations and teaching approach to different learning styles. We also have simple sensory tools, such as fidget items, available if they are helpful to you.

Our groups are small, which makes this kind of personal support much more possible. If you are unsure whether our training environment would work well for you, please contact us before booking. We are happy to have an open conversation and prepare together.

Do I need previous yoga teaching experience?

No. You don’t need to have taught yoga before. The training is designed to give you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to begin teaching.

Do I need to be able to do advanced yoga poses?

No. You don’t need to be able to do advanced poses or have exceptional flexibility. We focus on understanding the practice, developing awareness and learning to teach safely and confidently.

Is the course taught in English?

Yes. Our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training is taught entirely in English.

How many days is the 200-hour training?

The training takes place over 15 days of fully in-person learning at Shambhala Yoga School in Los Realejos, Tenerife.

Your learning begins before you arrive. Around one month before the training, we send you preparation materials to help you become familiar with the course and arrive ready to make the most of your time with us. If you need them earlier, we’re happy to arrange this.

What styles of yoga are included?

Hatha and Vinyasa are the core teaching styles of the programme. You will also experience Yin Yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Partner Yoga and Yoga Nidra as part of your broader yoga education.

Is accommodation included?

Yes. Accommodation at Shambhala is included, with single, double and triple room options available at different prices.

Fresh, nourishing sattvic vegetarian ingredients are provided throughout your stay, allowing you to prepare wholesome meals and share the experience with your group.

Vegan and gluten-free options, as well as other dietary requirements and allergies, can be accommodated with advance notice.

Can I join if I am a beginner?

Yes. You don’t need to be an advanced practitioner or an experienced teacher. What matters most is your willingness to learn, practise and participate fully in the training.

What happens if I need to reschedule?

Our booking conditions allow rescheduling up to 45 days before the start of your training, subject to availability.

The deposit and remaining course payment are non-refundable. Please contact us as soon as possible if your circumstances change.
